What to gather before you apply for a mortgage
Subject: What to gather before you apply for a mortgage
Preview text: A simple folder that makes the application feel a lot less stressful.
Hi there,
On this week's episode, Dana talked about the part of buying a home that surprises most people: the paperwork.
Her advice is simple. Start a folder before you apply, not after. When the documents are already in one place, the application goes more smoothly and there's less back and forth.
What usually goes in the folder. Recent pay stubs, the last two years of W-2s or tax returns, recent bank statements, a photo ID, and a list of your current monthly debts. If you're self-employed, add your business records.
From the show. Dana explained why a gift from family or a recent job change is worth mentioning early, and why it helps to hold off on opening new credit while you're shopping for a home.
Every situation is different, so what you need may vary. If you're thinking about buying in the next year, reply to this email and we'll set up a short call to walk through your list.

What to gather before you apply for a mortgage
Most people think the hard part of getting a mortgage is finding the home. For many buyers, the part that slows things down is tracking down documents at the last minute.
On our podcast, Dana's advice was to start a simple folder early. Pay stubs, tax returns or W-2s, bank statements, a photo ID and a list of monthly debts cover the basics for many buyers. Self-employed buyers usually need business records too.
Your loan officer can tell you exactly what applies to you. You'll find the full episode on our site.
